Narrative
The Jews' Secret Fleet told the story of the rescue of Jews from Europe after World War II by North American Jewish volunteers, who smashed through the British blockade and brought thousands of refugees to safe haven in Palestine through Aliyah Bet.
The book chronicled the deeds of this secret fleet of eleven ships and the 240 men who served upon them, detailing how the fleet was obtained, the Aliyah Bet movement as a whole, and the various trips taken by the ships, and the outcome of thier attempts to circumvent the British blockade.
The book included copies of letters, the front pages of newspapers, and pictures detailing the events mentioned in the text, along with an appendix, including the names of all 240 volunteers along with the name of the ship they served on.
Film director Alan Rosenthal was inspired by this book to create his documentary film, Waves of Freedom.
Filled with photos, and enhanced by Sir Martin Gilbert's introduction, this meticulously researched book is the definitive word on a little-known chapter of Jewish history.
