Event Note Captain Francisco Morilla commanded a three-man Spanish crew aboard Egoz אגוז Pisces. Haim Sarfati, age 28 years, was sent by the Mossad as Gidoni, wirelss radio operator, on his last mission before returning to marry in Israel. On Wednesday, January 11, 1961, Jacques and Denise Ben Haroch sailed from Casablanca on Egoz Pisces.
On Wednesday 11 January 1961, David Dadoune and his two children sailed from Casablanca on Egoz Pisces. On Wednesday, January 11 1961, Henry Mamane and his mother, Hana Azoulay, age 80 years, and his children, sailed from Casablanca on Egoz Pisces, to reunit with his two girls who had sailed -n January 2, with a group of children.
Egoz אגוז Pisces sailed out to sea, but despite the fact the forecast had been checked for good weather, the waves became rough. Yet all checks had been made and the forecast had been for good weather. Cabo de Gata, A Spanish trawler, picked up Captain Francisco Morilla and the two sailors at dawn, and sounded the alert.
Twenty-two corpses were found floating on the surface wearing inadequate life jackets, but the wreck of Egoz Pisces, itself, and the bodies of 20 passengers, including 16 children, were never found. After years of negotiations, King Hassan II gave his permission for the bones from the shipwreck to be repatriated to Israel, and they were given a state funeral at Mount Herzl הר הרצל in Jerusalem ירושלים, on 14 December 1992. |
