Event Note In August, 1937, Archibald Percival Wavell was transferred to Palestine, to be General Officer Commanding (GOC) British Forces in Palestine and TransJordan, In January, 1938, Archibald Percival Wavell was promoted to lieutenant general; in April, he became General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C) Southern Command in the United Kingdom; and in July, he was named as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Middle East Command with the local rank of full general.
