In September, 1942, Yozef Rakowski was warned by a Polish policeman that the Germans were requisitioning transport for a transportation aktion in Kazimierza Wielka. so the family went into hiding together with the family of Sophie's brother, Jozef Banach, at a farm a few miles out of town.
