In 1942, the Germans transported 3,000 Jews from Zbaraż to Belzec death camp, while more than a thousand Jews were killed on the spot.
In September-October 1942, Jews from Podwoloczyska and surrounding villages were resettled in Zbaraż.
In December 1942, the Zbaraż Ghetto was established, with a population of 1,500 residents.

On July 6, 1941, the Germans occupied Zbarazh, which had been taken by the Soviets took control of the town after the start of the war, pursuant to the pact between Hitler and Stalin.
German Jewish refugees from occupied Poland increased the Jewish population of Zbarazh to about 5,000.
