Narrative
In 1939, a group of Olim from Germany set up tents on the hills which became kibbutz Even Yitzhak קיבוץ אבן יצחק.
The land on which kibbutz Even Yitzhak קיבוץ אבן יצחק was established was acquired with funds donated to Keren HaYesod קרן היסוד by Yitzhak Ochberg, a South African philanthropist (who had also provided funds to acquire the land on which kibbutz Dalia קיבוץ דליה was established).
The name Even Yitzhak אבן יצחק, was later changed to Galed, in memory of HaBonim הבונים members killed in World War II.
Narrative
Milton Taylor cites: "The early 1950’s was a time of mass immigration into Israel, not only from Europe but also Jews from Arab countries. The kibbutz received children through an organization called Youth Aliya, which was an offspring of the Jewish Agency. These were kids of about 10 and up, who went to the kibbutz school, or to a special school established for them, to teach them Hebrew and other skills."
"Many were orphans and members of the kibbutz would adopt them inviting them home, or going with them to the dinning room for dinner."
