In August, 1929, Arab rioters in Hevron חברון killed 67 Jews and wounded 60, and ransacked Jewish homes and synagogues.
435 Jews survived because of the shelter and assistance given them by their Arab neighbours.

In 1931, 35 families moved back to the ruins of the Jewish quarter in Hevron חברון, but Palestinian Arab national revolt in April, 1936, forced British authorities to take precautionary measures, and move the Jewish community out of Hevron חברון.
