Yafo יפו was possibly named for Japheth יפת בן נח, son of Noah נח, who built it after the Great Flood.
Hellenists linked the name to Iopeia Cassiopeia, mother of Andromeda Ἀνδρομέδη. after whom an outcropping of rocks near the harbor is named, reputed to have been the place from which Andromeda Ἀνδρομέδη was rescued by Perseus Περσεύς.
Pliny the Elder cites the name refers to Jopa, daughter of Aeolus Αἴολος, ruler of the winds.
