In 1939, kibbutz Gesher קיבוץ גשר was founded, on lands acquired with help of Edmond de Rothschild, by Palestinian Jews, members of haNoar haOved הנוער העובד, and Jews from Germany.
Narrative
In April-May 1948, kibbutz Gesher קיבוץ גשר was attacked by Iraqi forces and the Arab Legion الجيش العربي, forcing the evacuation of 50 children to a 19th century French monastery adjacent to Rambam רמב"ם Hospital in Bat Galim בת גלים, in Haifa, where they lived for 22 months.
