Narrative
In 1970, Touro College was chartered by New York State.
In 1971, the College opened with a class of 35 Liberal Arts and Sciences students.
Touro College takes its name from Judah Touro and Isaac Touro, Jewish community leaders of colonial America, who represent the ideals upon which the College bases its mission.
The Touro family provided major endowments for universities, the first free library on the North American continent, community health facilities in the United States, and pioneering settlements in Israel.
