In early May, 1940, fifty Jews were transported to Cieszanów to prepare the site for the labour camp for modification along the model of Bełżec.
Narrative
On August 18, 1940, 3,000 Jews were transported to Cieszanów, bringing the total camp population to 3,800, by autumn 1940.
The prisoners worked on construction of fortifications, roads and rivers flood control.
In addition, 1,000 young men from Czestochowa, ages 18 to 25 years, were transported to the forced labor camp in Cieszanów; almost none survived.

In October, 1940, 1,000 Jews were transferred to the work camp in Stary Dzików.
In November, 1940, the Cieszanów camp was closed down, but it was subsequently re-opened in the spring of 1941.
A ghetto was set up around the synagogue in Cieszanów, confining the Jews of Cieszanów, as well as nearby villages.
The Jews from the Mielec Ghetto were tranported to the Cieszanów Ghetto, before they were transported by carts to the Bełżec extermination camps.
Narrative
By 1943, the remaining Jews of Cieszanów were transported to Wierzbica, where they were murdered in the nearby forest.
