Narrative
On July 16, 1947, Shivat Zion שיבת ציון sailed from Oran وهران, carrying 411 passengers.
Paul H. Silverstone's Aliyah Bet Project cites: "These immigrants had come from North Africa, left behind by the Yehuda Halevi (No. 141). The 411 passengers included 130 children; the ship was dangerously overcrowded and was shadowed by a British destroyer. "
Narrative
On July 28, 1947, Shivat Zion was located by the RAF 38 Squadron, and intercepted by HMS Haydon, HMS Octavia, HMS Brissenden and HMS Espiegle.
The passengers of Shivat Zion were sent to Cyprus Kibris on the SS Empire Shelter and SS Empire Comfort.
