Narrative
Zerach זרח means Sunrise, Glowing, or Scarlet (similar to the initial colour of sunrise), in Hebrew.
Zerach was the son of Judah and Tamar, and the twin of Pharez, who had stuck his hand out before being born, to which the midwife had tied a scarlet thread.
Zerah was a Gershonite Levite (1 Chronicles 6:21, 41).
Zerach was the Duke of Edom (Genesis 36.13,17).
Zerach was the Cushite who invaded Judea during the reign of King Asa, accompanied by many Libyans (2 Chronicles 14:8).
Some have tried to identify Zerach with the Egyptian Libyan kings of the 22nd dynasty, such as Osarkon I or II, or claimed he was a Nubian general in the service of Egypt.
