David Birnbaum spent most of his professional career working in Asian garment factories.
He has been retained by large importer/retailers such as Marks & Spencer and Tommy Hilfiger as well as major garment factory groups in Asia, Europe and Africa.
He has also been retained as garment industry expert by the World Bank, the United Nations, the World Trade Organization, and the InterAmerican Development Bank as well as by governments in Asia and Latin American.
He has worked in the Dominican Republic, developing a new strategy for their garment industry. During the course of his career, he has built 11 garment factories in Asia and Latin America.
He is well known for his researches on the future prospects of the garment industry around the world.
He has lectured at Universities in many countries including the Institute of Textiles and Clothing at the Hong Kong Polytechnic and FIT in New York City.
His textbooks are used by many universities and institutes.
